Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP has named omas Timmins leader of the firm's energy group. Timmins is partner in Toronto and the firm's press release said he "has led on a number of the firm's most significant power sector mandates" includ- ing "Canadian and international genera- tion, distribution and transmission sector transactions, as well as key advisory roles for utilities, government agencies and sys- tem operators." Timmins has been head of Gowling's global renewable energy group. Timmins is also past chair of the Canadian Solar Industries Association and is adjunct professor of the University of Windsor's Faculty of Law. Bennett Jones LLP recently announced the firm has added Jordan Fremont as part- ner in the firm's Toronto office. Fremont will join the pensions and benefits team. Fremont's practice includes advising on plan design, compliance, governance, ad- ministration, regulatory investigations, disputes and business transactions, down- sizings, spinoffs, M&A and wind-ups. Fre- mont is former chair of the Canadian Pen- sion and Benefits Institute. KPMG Law LLP appointed Justin Kutyan as senior partner and national leader. Kutyan is a tax litigator, whose prac- tice includes income tax, GST/HST and customs issues, as well as advising on audits and Canada Revenue Agency appeals. ONTARIO WATERLOO Tech lawyers Todd Bissett and Ahsan Sadiq have joined Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP's Waterloo office as partners. Bissett and Sadiq are "widely recognized for their ability to deliver advanced solutions to an array of complex corporate and financing challenges, both domestic and cross-bor- der," said a Gowling WLG press release. Bissett is called in Ontario and California – has worked in Silicon Valley, Beijing and Shanghai, China – and his practice focuses on startup and emerging growth financing, venture capital, private M&A and cross- border work. Sadiq has experience assisting emerging growth companies in the areas of technology licensing, financing and M&A, as well as helping mid-to-large enterprises with technology and service acquisition. Sadiq also has experience helping companies in M&A integration, negotiating tech acqui- sition contracts and leading sales for a multi- national, high-tech equipment vendor. ALBERTA CALGARY Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP re- cently announced the addition of Brad Schneider to their corporate/commercial group. Schneider joins the firm as counsel at the Calgary office. Schneider's prac- tice focuses on M&A, private equity and general corporate matters and Schneider has worked on M&A deals domestically and internationally, including through- out Asia-Pacific. Schneider advises clients building oil and gas and energy infrastruc- ture projects. His practice also includes advising on corporate reorganizations and competition law. QUEBEC MONTREAL Jean-François Séguin has joined Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP as partner in the firm's Montreal office. Séguin will join the corporate/commercial group. His prac- tice includes advising high-growth compa- nies and institutional investors on M&A transactions, equity financings, joint ven- tures and other matters. Séguin also serves as strategic advisor to tech start-ups, help- ing them raise capital, build administrative functions and expand.
